Newsletter ................Health Benefits of Grassfed Beef

Searching the Internet gives an amazing amount of information as to the significant health benefits of eating grassfed beef compared to beef that has been lot-fed.

Feeding animals significant amounts of grain changes the omega 6 : omega 3 ratio from 3:1 to up to 20:1.

Omega 3 fatty acids are important to health and are anti-thrombogenic, enhance cancer therapy, protective against heart disease, and obesity.

One finding suggested that pasture grazed cows may produce milk with up to 500% greater CLA than silage fed cows

Grass-fed beef is significantly higher in Vitamin E than grain fed beef.

.These effects are similar for grass fed poultry, both the meat and eggs.

As graziers what does this mean ?
That with the optimisation of your grass nutrition you can produce a wholesome, healthy and flavour-some product that should be profitable to produce and be able to command a premium itself on the basis of flavour and nutritive content.

Healthy soils will grow grasses with high levels of nutrients and natural chemicals such as anti-oxidants and enzymes. Omega-3s are formed in the chloroplasts of green leaves.

This is what ruminants are designed to digest!
